Open opportunities for researchers at the frontier of quantum photonics
Sparrow Quantum
At Sparrow Quantum, we are always on the lookout for pioneering researchers. As a spinout from the Niels Bohr Institute, we’ve seen how bold ideas and groundbreaking research can evolve into world-leading commercial innovation—and we welcome those who want to be part of our journey to disrupt quantum photonics.
That’s why we keep an open call for highly motivated researchers and quantum technologists who are excited about the most advanced quantum sources of today. We design roles around the right people, not the other way around; so, if you’re an outstanding researcher or engineer with the drive to shape the future of quantum photonics, we want to hear from you.
What we’re working on
Sparrow Quantum is a Danish quantum technology company advancing light–matter interfaces for quantum computing and communication systems. We are widely recognized as a leader in deterministic single-photon source chip technology, demonstrating the world’s highest light–matter coupling efficiency.
Our flagship product, Sparrow Core, is an on-chip single-photon source that delivers long strings of >100 single photons of near-unity quality with a coupling efficiency above 98%. This translates into more than 20 million high-quality single photons per second directly in optical fiber—ready for deployment in applications such as multi-photon quantum simulations and quantum key distribution experiments.
We work with InAs/GaAs quantum dots embedded in planar nanostructures, operated at cryogenic temperatures. Our patented technology builds on more than two decades of research by our founder, Peter Lodahl, and his Hybrid Quantum Networks Hy-Q Center of Excellence at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen.
What’s next
We are developing an on-chip spin–photon source that unites the long coherence times of solid-state spins with deterministic single-photon generation. Combined with our world-leading efficiency in single-photon emission this platform is designed to set a new benchmark for the field. By embedding spin–photon interfaces directly into scalable photonic circuits, we aim to deliver the essential building block for quantum repeaters, distributed quantum computing, and the quantum internet itself. We are defining the blueprints and roadmaps for how our disruptive new technology will radically transform these technologies.
Our vision is to become the reference point in the industry for high-performance, scalable quantum photonic hardware—and we are looking for researchers who want to define this frontier with us.
What we’re looking for
We welcome applications from researchers and engineers across disciplines, including (but not limited to):
- Spin–Photon Interfaces in Solid-State Systems
- Deterministic Single-Photon and Entanglement Sources
- Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) technology for Quantum Applications
- Fault-tolerant photonic quantum computing including architectures and applications
- Quantum Networking
Whether you’re a PhD student exploring your next step, an experienced postdoc, or an accomplished researcher or engineer ready for a new challenge, we want to hear about your vision.
Who you are
- Adaptability: You can thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment and are willing to learn new skills and approaches. As a member of our flock of Sparrows, you'll have the opportunity to work across various fields, including quantum materials, quantum devices, and quantum photonics (both theory and experiment)
- Creativity: You can think outside the box and generate innovative ideas and solutions.
- End-user focus: You can understand and anticipate end-user needs and deliver solutions that exceed their expectations.
- Self-starting team player: You can be a great collaborator in a team setting but also have the initiative and motivation to take on tasks independently.
