Senior Scientist - Peptide Chemistry & AI-Driven Drug Discovery
Software Engineering, Data Science
Frederiksberg, Denmark
Join our Platform Chemistry team to help shape the future of peptide chemistry through advanced automation, platform innovation and AI-driven drug discovery
Orbis Medicines is a pioneering Biotech company powered by our automated nGen chemistry platform and data-driven approach. We develop oral alternatives to injectable biologics and design drugs for hard-to-drug targets primarily in inflammation and immune-driven diseases. Orbis’ nGen platform designs macrocycles with oral bioavailability by combining AI technologies with automated synthesis and high-throughput screening of real compounds.
We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join our Platform Chemistry team in Copenhagen and help advance both our chemistry platform and the way it integrates with AI-driven drug discovery.
About the role
This is a scientific role within our Platform Chemistry team, combining experimental peptide chemistry, platform development, and cross-functional project delivery. Working alongside experienced peptide chemists, Design and Data Scientists, and Discovery project teams, you will deliver the macrocyclic peptide libraries that drive Orbis’ drug discovery programmes while helping identify opportunities to improve the chemistry platform, laboratory workflows and enabling technologies.
Reporting directly to the VP of Platform Chemistry, you will represent Platform Chemistry within multidisciplinary project teams, helping to plan chemistry activities, coordinate platform resources and support successful project delivery. You will also work closely with Design and Data Science teams to help translate AI-driven molecular designs into practical synthetic workflows. In doing so, you’ll help shape how Platform Chemistry integrates with AI-driven drug discovery by developing new workflows, improving cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring experimental expertise remains central to the design process.
As part of the Platform Chemistry team, you will:
Drive scientific delivery
- Independently deliver Platform Chemsitry activities across multiple discovery projects, ensuring high-quality and timely execution.
- Plan and execute complex peptide synthesis workflows and macrocyclic library production.
- Troubleshoot scientific challenges and provide technical expertise to ensure robust experimental outcomes.
Advance Platform Chemistry capability
- Identify opportunities to improve synthetic methodologies, laboratory automation, and platform workflows.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and workflows that expand the capabilities of the chemistry platform.
- Drive continuous improvement across experimental processes, data quality and operational efficiency.
Bridge Design and Chemistry
- Represent Platform Chemistry within multidisciplinary discovery project teams, providing scientific input to project planning, prioritization, and delivery.
- Collaborate with Design and Data Science teams to ensure computational designs align with platform capabilities, synthetic feasibility and experimentally accessible chemistry.
- Contribute to the evolution of the design-to-make workflow by identifying improvements to scientific processes, workflows, and software tools.
- Act as a scientific advocate for Platform Chemistry, ensuring experimental insight informs AI-driven molecule design and platform development.
Your skills and expertise
We’re looking for someone with:
- A PhD in chemistry/pharmaceutical science or a related field
- +5 years of industry experience working with peptide chemistry, macrocycles, or related synthetic chemistry within a biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
- Strong practical expertise in peptide synthesis, purification, and analytical techniques, including experience with automated laboratory instrumentation (e.g. peptide synthesiser, liquid handlers).
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan, execute, and troubleshoot complex experimental workflows
- Comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams and building strong relationships with other functions
- Strong scientific judgement, excellent communication skills and the confidence to make independent decisions
- Proactive, collaborative, and motivated to continuously improve both scientific outcomes and the way we work.
