Job Description

The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.

We're seeking a Principal Staff Engineer with deep expertise in Online Infrastructure, Platforms, and Databases to provide technical leadership for the Online Infrastructure organization, focusing on the critical areas of online databases. The Online Infrastructure team delivers the specialized infrastructure required to run LinkedIn’s user-facing, online applications with high availability, low latency, and optimal performance.You will be a technical leader, driving innovation and architectural excellence in systems that power our real-time, high-throughput online services. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing, building, and optimizing scalable and reliable database solutions that enable data-driven decisions and exceptional user experiences.

Responsibilities:
Architectural Leadership:
Define and drive the architectural vision for our online databases, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
Lead the design and implementation of complex, distributed systems that handle high volumes of data and traffic.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies and approaches to improve our database.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence.Lead by example to build a culture of craftsmanship and innovation
Database Expertise:
Deep understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.
Expertise in database performance tuning, optimization, and scaling.
Experience with database replication, sharding, and high-availability strategies.
Drive improvements in data consistency, durability, and availability.
Operational Excellence:
Drive improvements in system observability, monitoring, and alerting.
Lead efforts to improve system reliability, availability, and maintainability.
Establishing engineering and design best practices for high-scale, reliable infrastructure. Leading design reviews, incident post-mortem reviews, and production readiness reviews.
Champion best practices for software development, testing, and deployment.
Collaboration and Communication:
Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, 1 including product, operations, and data science
Resolve conflicts between teams within the organization to build alignment and culture


Basic Qualifications:
BS/BA in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent technical experience
10+ years of experience in software design, building solutions
5+ years in a technical leadership position

Preferred Qualifications:
12+ years of experience in software design
5+ of those years in a technical leadership position
Experience with online databases.
Experience leading and influencing within large, matrixed organization
Experience leading high-impact, cross-organization initiatives.

The pay range for this role is $207,000 to $340,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
