Interhuman AI builds social intelligent AI systems capable of understanding human behavior. Our API detects and interprets social signals like hesitation, engagement, confusion, interest across voice, facial expressions, body language, and words. Unlike emotion AI, we focus on observable behaviors and their meaning in context.

We’re looking for a motivated intern to join our Behavioral Science team in Copenhagen or remotely. This is a hands-on role where you’ll work directly with our Behavioral Science and AI teams on the data, annotation, and interpretation infrastructure that powers our social intelligence API.

What You’ll Do

Data annotation is at the core of this internship and will account for the large majority of your time. High-quality human annotation is critical to how we train, evaluate, and improve our models, and our Behavioral Science team plays a central role in defining what good behavioral data looks like.

Each week, you will receive a set of audio and video data to annotate using our internal tools and behavioral frameworks. Your main responsibilities will include identifying and labeling social signals across people’s voice, facial expressions, body language, and conversational context; applying our annotation guidelines consistently; and participating in calibration and quality-review activities with the rest of the annotation team.

Through this work, you will develop a detailed understanding of how human behavior can be translated into structured data for machine learning, and how behavioral science informs the development of socially intelligent AI systems.

From time to time, you may also contribute to related activities such as reviewing annotation guidelines, discussing difficult or ambiguous behavioral examples, testing new annotation approaches, or supporting data-quality work.

These activities complement the core annotation work rather than replacing it.

What We Offer

We understand the importance of flexibility. This unpaid internship requires a minimum commitment of 12 hours per week for six months, with the possibility of an extension. You will have considerable flexibility in when you complete your tasks, although meeting deadlines, communicating promptly, and being available during CET hours for meetings and team collaboration will be required.

The internship offers close mentorship and hands-on experience at the intersection of AI, behavioral science, and multimodal data, including the following in addition to annotation work:

  • You will have opportunities to participate in the broader intellectual and technical life of Interhuman. You will join our weekly Behavioral Science team meeting, where we discuss ongoing research, model development, data challenges, and decisions related to how we represent human behavior.
  • You will also be invited to our weekly research roundtable, where members of the team discuss interesting recent papers and ideas from behavioral science, machine learning, and AI.
  • Interns can participate in our internal vibe-coding demo challenges, where team members experiment with new tools and ideas and build small prototypes, with rewards for particularly interesting projects.
  • You will also have access to mentorship from people working across Behavioral Science and AI. This gives you the opportunity to learn not only how behavioral data is annotated, but also how that data connects to model development, evaluation, and the broader challenge of building AI systems that can understand human behavior.
  • This internship is best suited to Bachelor’s and Master’s students who are genuinely interested in gaining hands-on experience with AI and behavioral data annotation at an early-stage startup. It offers the opportunity to develop expertise in behavioral data while gaining exposure to cutting-edge work at the intersection of behavioral science and AI.

    Who we’re looking for

You might be a great fit for this role if you meet some or all of the following:

  • Educational background: You're studying or have completed a degree in Psychology, Behavioral Science, Cognitive Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • Interest in human behavior: You’re curious about how people communicate through voice, facial expressions, posture, and micro-behaviors. Experience with behavioral coding, observational research, or annotation work is a plus.
  • Familiarity with structured frameworks: Experience with coding schemes, taxonomies, or rule-based systems helps.
  • Dataset curation expertise: You’ve curated datasets before and understand the importance of documentation, consistency, and reliability when working with data.
  • Technical proficiency: You know your way around Gen-AI tools for analysis, research, or light prototyping. You don’t need to be an engineer, but you should enjoy exploring new tools and figuring things out.
  • Self-directed and resourceful: You’re comfortable figuring things out independently and know when to ask for help.
  • Strong communication skills: You can explain concepts clearly, whether technical or behavioral.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment: You can balance multiple tasks and adapt as things move quickly.
  • Who we are

At Interhuman AI, we’re building the social intelligence layer for AI. Our mission is to enable machines to understand how humans actually behave – not just what we say. We’re pioneering a new class of multimodal AI that reads facial expressions, voice, and body language to interpret social signals, delivering AI interactions that feel truly adaptive and emotionally aware.

We’re a small but ambitious team (backed by top investors) with a working prototype, early paying customers, and a vision to become essential infrastructure in the future of conversational AI. We value curiosity, high standards, and collaboration – and we also believe in keeping things fun and supportive.
