Solutions Engineer
Factbird
Austin, TX, USA
Posted on Nov 14, 2025
Factbird’s Engineering Services team builds bridges between the factory floor and the cloud. We design and deliver integrations that bring real-time production data into our platform reliably, securely, and at scale.
We’re hiring a Solutions Engineer who is a builder: someone who can identify the root cause of a problem, map the technical path from concept to production, and make it work in the different realities of manufacturing environments.
This is a hands-on integration role combining architecture, implementation, and stabilization. You’ll work with PLCs, edge devices, and Industrial data hubs like Ignition, OPC Router, and Kepware, ensuring data moves cleanly between operational technology (OT) and IT systems. You’ll need a strong technical foundation, a methodical approach, and the flexibility to operate on a small team in a growing, fast-changing environment where no two projects look the same.
If you’re energized by solving new problems, working autonomously, and creating repeatable systems that others can build on, this is that kind of role.

Areas of Responsibility
Integration Design & Architecture
- Analyze customer OT/IT environments—assets, networks, data sources, ownership, and constraints.
- Define integration architecture, including data sources, tag structures, transformations, and security models.
- Align designs with Factbird’s platform capabilities and standards while tailoring unique plant setups.
- Validate technical feasibility early with Solution Consultants and Product.
Implementation & Build
- Configure and integrate industrial middleware systems such as Ignition, Kepware (KepserverEX), or OPC Router to connect PLCs and sensors to Factbird.
- Troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues across industrial protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT, REST) and plant networks.
- Version, document, and back up configurations for repeatability and maintainability.
Validation & Handoff
- Test end-to-end data flow (latency, throughput, failure recovery, restart behavior).
- Implement monitoring, logging, and access controls for long-term stability.
- Produce operational documentation and runbooks for customers and internal teams.
- Support the transition to steady-state operation
- Act as escalation point for technical issues and provide technical support on Engineering Services Solutions.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with Solution Consultants, Support, Cloud Development, and Product teams.
- For strategic (“Class A”) customers, engage directly with the customer’s OT stakeholders during deployment.
- Contribute to internal knowledge bases, configuration templates, and automation scripts that increase delivery efficiency.
- Provide feedback to Product on recurring integration patterns and technical friction points.
Who You Are
- A builder who enjoys taking an undefined technical challenge and creating a reliable, documented solution.
- Equally comfortable in the details of PLC configuration and the broader system architecture.
- Self-directed and structured: you can prioritize, execute, and deliver without daily supervision.
- Flexible and collaborative: you thrive in a growth-stage environment where priorities evolve and success depends on shared ownership – you are willing to take on ad hoc projects as needed.
- Pragmatic and resilient: you troubleshoot systematically, learn quickly, and stay focused when things get ambiguous.
- Excited by the fact that every project is different: you’ll solve new problems with each engagement and contribute new approaches that make the next one easier.
What You Bring
- 5–10 years in industrial automation, system integration, or OT/IT architecture.
- Strong understanding of PLCs, industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT, REST APIs), and plant network design.
- Hands-on experience with Ignition, OPC Router, or Kepware.
- Familiarity with MES/MOM systems and manufacturing data models.
- Experience troubleshooting network connectivity, latency, and data integrity issues.
- Comfortable working in Linux environments and performing basic scripting or API integrations.
- Excellent written documentation and clear, professional communication skills.
- Background as a systems integrator or internal OT owner managing production uptime and governance.
