EHS Planning & Implementation
- Develop, implement, and maintain a Project EHS Management Plan covering all phases: Construction, Pre-commissioning, Commissioning, and Handover.
- Establish clear safe systems of work, risk assessments (HIRA/JSA/JHA), and method statement reviews for all construction activities.
- Ensure compliance with Novonesis global EHS standards, local statutory regulations, and best industry practices.
- Construction & Contractor Safety Management
- Lead EHS oversight for all contractors and subcontractors on site.
- Define and enforce contractor EHS pre-qualification, onboarding, and induction processes.
- Monitor day-to-day site activities to ensure compliance with:
- Work at height
- Lifting and crane operations
- Excavation and civil works
- Electrical safety
- Confined space entry
- Hot work and permit-to-work systems
- Exercise authority to stop unsafe work and drive immediate corrective actions.
- Proactively identify safety risks, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions.
- Drive near-miss reporting, unsafe act reporting, and safety observations culture.
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations using root cause analysis and ensure effective CAPA closure.
- Track EHS KPIs, trends, and leading indicators.
- Develop and implement Emergency Response Plans (ERP) for fire, medical emergencies, rescue operations, chemical spills, and natural disasters.
- Plan and conduct mock drills and emergency simulations.
- Ensure availability and effectiveness of:
- On-site medical facilities and qualified doctors
- Fully equipped ambulance
- First aid stations
- Clearly marked assembly points and evacuation routes
- Ensure compliance with applicable labour laws and construction-related statutes, including:
- Building & Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Act
- Contract Labour Act
- Minimum Wages Act
- Working hours, welfare, and hygiene requirements
- Ensure proper registration, records, statutory displays, and welfare facilities for contract labour.
- Define and control site entry and exit procedures for workers, contractors, visitors, and vehicles.
- Ensure worker identification, safety induction records, and access authorization.
- Coordinate with security teams to maintain discipline and safety compliance.
- Ensure effective construction waste management, including segregation, storage, and disposal.
- Monitor dust suppression, noise control, wastewater management, and spill prevention.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits, conditions, and commitments.
- Plan and conduct:
- Safety induction programs
- Daily toolbox talks
- Specialized safety training programs
- Organize Safety Week, campaigns, and EHS awareness initiatives.
- Promote strong worker participation and ownership of safety.
- Conduct regular EHS inspections, audits, and contractor assessments.
- Prepare and present:
- Weekly and monthly EHS reports
- Safety dashboards and KPIs
- Management review presentations
- Act as the primary EHS interface with statutory authorities, auditors, and inspectors.
- Basic Qualifications

- 15–20 years of relevant EHS experience
- Minimum 8+ years in large Greenfield construction projects
- Experience in Pharma, Biologics, Chemical, FMCG, or large industrial infrastructure projects preferred
- Candidate profile

- Strong understanding of construction project lifecycle
- Proven experience managing EHS in multi-contractor, high-risk construction environments
- Deep knowledge of Indian labour laws and statutory safety requirements
- Strong leadership presence with authority to enforce safety
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working with EPC/EPCM contractors and statutory consultants
- NEBOSH / IOSH or equivalent certification preferred
- First Aid and Emergency Response certification desirable
- Aligning multi-block schedules across teams, vendors, and contractors
- Enforcing zero-harm culture across multiple contractors
- Preventing LTIs and high-risk incidents in a fast-paced construction environment
- Ensuring full statutory and labour law compliance
- Managing safety during simultaneous high-risk activities
- Driving proactive reporting of near-misses and unsafe conditions
- Maintaining discipline, access control, and site-wide safety standards
- Responding effectively to emergencies and regulatory inspections
