Join us as our new Fermentation Specialist

Site Avedøre produces lactic acid bacteria for the Dairy and Human Health Industry. We operate the largest culture plant in the world, with advanced technology and an outstanding team of dedicated and competent employees.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Fermentation Specialist to join the Process & Technology (P&T) group in our Fermentation Department in Avedøre and support our production of lactic acid bacteria. The group currently consists of six specialists and one student assistant and plays a central role in both daily operational support and long-term process optimization. The ideal candidate brings a solid background in microbiology and fermentation, strong project management skills and a collaborative mindset.

Welcome to the team

The Fermentation Department in Avedøre comprises approximately 90 people and, besides the P&T specialist group, includes quality and training coordinators, a dedicated maintenance team, production technicians, and four operator teams. This open position is an important addition to a high-performing group where things move fast, and success depends on close collaboration across functions. You will interact daily with colleagues in the different production groups as well as with people from other departments and sites across the Novonesis organization (research scientists, specialists, project managers, and Quality Control coordinators).

In This Role You’ll Make An Impact By

• Daily operational support to fermentation production, including process and hygiene monitoring to secure process robustness and regulatory compliance
• Handling deviations, documentation as well as root cause investigations and problem solving
• Contributing with expertise in microbiology and fermentation, especially within industrial lactic acid bacteria production
• Participating in cross-functional project teams and working closely with global R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders
• Taking part in optimization projects focused on improving efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness
• Supporting technology and process transfer activities between Novonesis’ production sites
  
  

To succeed and advance in such role, you should meet the following qualifications:

• MSc or PhD in food science, microbiology, biotechnology, or a related field
• Minimum 3 years of industrial experience in a large organization within production, R&D, or QC
• Proven experience with microbial fermentation; experience with lactic acid bacteria is an advantage
• Project management experience in R&D or production environments is considered a plus, as strong communication and prioritization skills are essential for the role
• Fluency in English. As daily meetings and internal communication are in Danish, good understanding of the language is expected (minimum Prøve i Dansk 3)
  
  

In addition to the above, we expect you to bring a positive and proactive mindset, eagerness to learn, and a strong sense of responsibility and ownership across tasks and projects. Building and supporting strong collaboration is essential for success in this role, where production runs 24/7, priorities shift quickly, and decisions often need to be made at short notice.
