Join us as our new Research Scientist

We are looking for a Research Scientist with a deep passion in understanding complex substrate/enzyme interactions and linking knowledge to real application systems like food, feed, bioenergy & detergent. The position will be in Research & Development (R&D), Protein Chemistry & Assay, in the Department of Assays & Application.

Welcome to Protein Chemistry & Assays

The Protein, Chemistry & Assay (PCA) Functional area lies within the core R&D of Novonesis. PCA is international, and we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team, so you can expect to work alongside colleagues of different nationalities, cultures, and expertise.

The Department Assays & Application consists of 15 scientists and technicians located in Novonesis' Innovation Campus in Lyngby. The department has a strong focus on enzymology, biochemistry and biophysics and builds on values characterized by passion, experience, professionalism, and a good work culture. We contribute to new product development by generating and sharing innovative ideas, building application relevant screening assays, understanding complex substrate/enzymes interactions and through in-depth knowledge help guide enzyme candidate selection in projects involved in the three areas Human Health Biosolutions, Food & Beverage Biosolutions and Planetary Health Biosolutions. By covering a wide range of industries, this position enables you to contribute to the development of sustainable products for diverse applications such as food, dairy, baking, human health, bioenergy, and household care.

Our department further focuses on automation of assays and is looking for a scientist passionate about HTS assays, automation strategies, robotics, and digitalization. The ideal person should be eager to familiarize with and utilize lab automation and design effective data workflows. Good communication skills and enthusiasm for innovation are key for success here.

In This Role You’ll Make An Impact By

Working on parallel research projects by being part of a cross-functional project team with chemists and laboratory technicians across departments and countries. It is expected that you will thrive on managing several tasks at the same time. An important role is also to explore and develop new technologies in-house or via external collaboration where your collaborative mindset and learning capability is crucial.

The successful candidate is a strong team player who can independently plan and execute analyses in the laboratory.

To Succeed You Must Have

  • A PhD in biochemistry, biophysics or biotechnology or a Master’s degree with equivalent work experience
  • Strong scientific background with critical thinking skills, entrepreneurship mindset and ability to formulate ideas for experiments from diverse data/knowledge inputs and application/business relevant project needs.
  • Solid knowledge of protein biochemistry, biophysics, and enzyme-substrate interactions.
  • Strong communication skills, an open-minded and positive attitude, and a desire to achieve results together with others.
  • Additional we expect you to be fluent in English as you will work closely with colleagues of many different nationalities.

It Is An Advantage If You Have

  • Deep knowledge and working experience with proteins or other biologicals.
  • Experience with enzyme kinetics and characterization, assay automation, robotic liquid handling workstations.
  • An interest in programming, (Python, JMP scripting), and working with large datasets.
