Astrolight is on a mission to connect space and Earth using laser communication. We build systems to send data quickly and securely between satellites, ships, and ground stations, especially in places where traditional radio communication fails. Our technology supports both commercial and defense missions and is designed to perform reliably in real-world conditions. We are a fast-growing, fast-moving team focused on bringing fiber-like connectivity to space and beyond.
We are looking for a Senior Electronics Engineer to take ownership of the electronics behind our high-speed laser communication links: connecting ATLAS space terminals with optical ground stations, and linking vessels equipped with POLARIS terminals. You’ll shape system architecture, lead designs from concept to qualified hardware, and help grow the capabilities of our engineering team.
What you’ll do● Lead the architecture, design, and prototyping of reliable electronics, including power conversion, high-speed laser-based data links, high-speed low-noise analog circuits, and FPGA boards with DDR memory operating at up to 16 Gbps
● Own your designs end to end, from requirements and schematics through PCB layout reviews, bring-up, debugging, and documentation
● Collaborate closely with optical, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to deliver integrated, flight-ready systems
● Collaborate with our partners to plan and run qualification tests across thermal-vacuum, EMI/EMC, and high-radiation environments
● Mentor fellow engineers, lead design reviews, and help establish best practices across the electronics team
What we’re looking for● 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and bringing up complex electronic hardware
● Experience with high-speed, mixed-signal, and power electronics design where stack-up, impedance control, and SI/PI considerations are critical
● Background in simulation-driven hardware design, with proven experience in mathematical modeling and high-frequency signal/power integrity simulations
● A track record of designing for EMI/EMC compliance, including board and harness layout, shielding, filtering, and passing qualification testing
● A proven track record of solving complex engineering problems with creative, unconventional solutions
● Ability to work independently, make sound technical decisions, and take full ownership of results
Nice to have● Knowledge of failure modes of electronic devices in high-radiation and vacuum environments
● Experience with space-grade or radiation-tolerant components and relevant standards (e.g., ECSS)
● Proficiency in Python for automated hardware testing, mathematical modeling, and data analysis
● Background in laser drivers, photodetectors, or transimpedance amplifiers
● Experience with FPGA-based system design
What we offer● Stock options
● Private health insurance after the trial period
● Flexible hours and hybrid work schedule
● Small, experienced team working on cutting-edge space and defense technology
SalaryRange from €3,500–5,000 gross/month, depending on experience and skills.
