Astrolight is on a mission to connect space and Earth using laser communication. We build systems to send data quickly and securely between satellites, ships, and ground stations, especially in places where traditional radio communication fails. Our technology supports both commercial and defense missions and is designed to perform reliably in real-world conditions. We are a fast-growing, fast-moving team focused on bringing fiber-like connectivity to space and beyond.
As our Project Manager, you will build our project framework from the ground up. You will establish a clean, lightweight process that maximizes execution speed without compromising quality. Working directly alongside leadership, clients, and technical leads, you will own real delivery outcomes rather than just track schedules. Your work will directly drive how quickly our hardware reaches land, sea, and space.
What you’ll do● Set up the project management system: choose and implement the tools and processes we need for clarity and delivering results
● Partner with leadership on business objectives: reaching contractual milestones, protecting cash flow, and maximizing capital efficiency
● Lead projects through the entire lifecycle, from initial requirements and prototyping through qualification, testing, and deployment
● Keep projects moving when things go wrong, navigating delays, technical setbacks, scope creep, and other challenges
● Identify and mitigate risks across scope, schedule, budget, and engineering resource allocation
● Coordinate work across optical, electronics, software, mechanical, and production teams to keep progress smooth
● Be the primary point of contact for customers and partners, leading project reviews, progress reporting, and milestone sign-offs
● Manage requirements and compliance, including change requests, project documentation, and defense or export control standards in line with customer and regulatory expectations
What we’re looking for● A clear understanding of what great hardware execution looks like and how to get there, including design reviews, qualification and testing, and typical challenges along the way
● Experience managing complex technical projects, ideally in aerospace, space, or defense
● Experience bringing structure to a dynamic environment under tight timelines
● Strong organizational and communication skills, with the confidence to report clearly to both engineers and executives
● Ability to assess a project’s needs and select the most suitable PM tools and methodologies
Nice to have● A background in engineering, physics, systems engineering, or a related field
● Familiarity with ECSS standards (engineering, quality, or project management)
● Practical experience handling EU dual-use regulations and export compliance
● Experience managing projects funded by governments or agencies (ESA, European Defence Fund, or national defense/R&D programs)
● A track record of implementing a project management structure from scratch with proven results
What we offer● Stock options
● Private health insurance after the trial period
● Flexible hours and hybrid work schedule
● Small, experienced team working on cutting-edge space and defense technology
SalaryRange from €3,000–5,000 gross/month, depending on experience and skills.
